Lost Future 2018
In its second year, the project explored representations of nationalism beyond neo-classical figures. Busts of monarchs, presidents, founding fathers, and idealised women symbolised nations on coins. These figures were widely circulated contributing to the construction of nationalism and raising hopes for utopian imperial futures. As Empires failed, the once promised futures were lost. The images allude to this failure by showing that history has inflicted damage on the figures which were originally perfectly stamped onto coins.
